Meadowdale tops Bainbridge 4-0 in state softball opener

LACEY — Four runs is somewhat low for the Meadowdale softball team, which averages 13 runs per game.

But four runs got it done for the Mavericks Friday morning.

Meadowdale defeated Bainbridge 4-0 in its 3A state tournament opener at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.

The Mavericks face Lake Washington in the state quarterfinals at 4 p.m.

Emma Helm (2-for-2) hit an RBI double to get Meadowdale (21-3) on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. It looked like that might be the game’s lone run until the Mavericks added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth -– two coming on a double by Kaitlyn Webster (2-for-4) and another on an RBI single by Samantha Gregoryk.

As a team, Meadowdale tallied 10 hits.

Mavericks pitcher Lauren Dent struck out eight Bainbridge (14-12) batters in a complete game.
