LACEY —- The Everett softball team’s bid to make it to the state championship game for a second consecutive year fell just short Saturday, with the Seagulls falling to Enumclaw 2-1 in a 3A state semifinal game.
Everett (20-6 overall), which finished second at last year’s 3A state tournament, will play Wesco 3A rival Glacier Peak, which defeated Lake Washington 7-3 Saturday morning, in a loser-out game. The winner of that will advance to play in the third/fourth-place game at 1:30 p.m.
Enumclaw (21-1) pitcher Quinn Breidenbach, who has signed with the University of Massachusetts, struck out eight and scattered three hits in the Hornets’ victory. Breidenbach also hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning and scored both runs for Enumclaw – scoring the game-winner on an RBI single by Rechelle Dunn in the top of the sixth.
Everett senior Sydney Taggart hit a solo home run in the second inning to account for the Seagulls’ lone run.
