LACEY —- The fifth time was the charm for Meadowdale.
The Mavericks, who have been to the 3A state tournament for five consecutive years, defeated Marysville Pilchuck 12-2 in five innings in a state semifinal game to clinch a spot in the 3A championship game for the first time in school history.
The Mavericks will face Enumclaw in the title game at 1:30 p.m. at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.
Meadowdale’s power was on display early and often against the Tomahawks. Julia Reuble and Emma Helm hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning to put Meadowdale (23-3 overall) ahead early. Both added another home run later in the contest.
Reuble finished 3-for-3 with two homers and three RBI and Helm (2-for-3) added 3 RBI on her two home runs. Samantha Gregoryk (3-for-3) also hit a home run and finished with three RBI.
Mckenzie Justice had both RBI for Marysville Pilchuck (20-7) in the loss. The Tomahawks will take on Mt. Spokane in a loser-out game at 11 a.m.
The winner of that game advances to face the winner of Everett-Glacier Peak in the third/fourth-place game at 1:30.
