Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton lead in presidential primary votes counted through Friday from Edmonds, Woodway and nearby areas of southwest Snohomish County.
Trump had 68.2 percent of Republican votes in Edmonds, Woodway and the nearby areas that are part of the Snohomish County portion of the 7th Congressional District to 17.6 percent for Ohio Gov. John Kasich, 10.4 percent for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and 3.8 percent for retired surgeon Ben Carson.
Trump had a bigger lead statewide with 75.4 percent of votes counted through Friday to 10.8 percent for Cruz, 9.8 percent for Kasich and 4.0 percent for Carson. Trump won all of Washington’s 10 congressional districts to earn all 44 of Washington’s votes at the Republican national presidential nominating convention this summer. The whole 7th District gave Trump 66.3 percent, to 20.3 percent for Kasich, 10.2 percent for Cruz and 3.2 percent for Carson. The district includes Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, most of Seattle and some of Seattle’s southwest suburbs, in addition to Edmonds, Woodway and nearby areas.
Clinton had 59.2 percent of the Democratic votes in the Edmonds-Woodway area, compared to 40.8 percent for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Clinton led statewide with 52.4 percent of the Democratic vote to 47.6 percent for Sanders. Sanders, however, will get most of Washington’s votes at the Democratic national nominating convention because Washington Democrats allocate their convention delegates based on caucuses, where Sanders had most of the support.
Primary results showed Sanders leading in only three of the 10 congressional districts. One is the 2nd Congressional District, which includes Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Brier and coastal areas of Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties from Mukiteo to Bellingham, and all of Island and San Juan counties.
