Tom Lysiak, a former NHL All-Star who played with the Chicago Blackhawks from 1979 until his retirement in 1986, died Monday after a lengthy battle with leukemia, Lysiak’s daughter Jesse told the team’s official website.
He was 63.
Lysiak, a center, played parts of six seasons with the Atlanta Flames before he was traded to the Hawks during the 1978-79 season.
Lysiak, the second overall pick of the 1973 draft, had several strong seasons with the Blackhawks playing alongside teammates such as Doug Wilson, now the general manager of the San Jose Sharks, Denis Savard and Tony Esposito.
He registered a career-high 32 goals during the 1981-82 season to go along with 50 assists, and in 1980-81 season he tallied 55 assists, also a career high.
Lysiak’s daughter Jesse is married to Justin Braun, a defenseman with the Sharks.
