FORT WORTH, Texas — Jeremy McCuin hit a solo homer, part of a two-run ninth inning rally, and Arizona State topped Gonzaga 6-3 in an NCAA Tournament Fort Worth Regional elimination game on Sunday.
Arizona State (36-22) faces top-seed TCU (44-15) later on Sunday in the regional finals. ASU will have to defeat TCU twice to advance to the Super Regionals.
ASU took advantage of a couple of wild pitches, an error and an RBI double by Colby Woodmansee for a three-run fourth inning, and tacked another run on in the fifth to make it 4-1.
Gonzaga (35-21) rallied for a pair of runs in the eighth inning, with Taylor Jones knocking in Jeffrey Bohling with a double, but it wasn’t enough.
Sun Devils starter Zach Dixon allowed three earned runs on eight hits, striking out nine, over eight innings.
