Everett Transit is planning to improve bus stops along Broadway, between 34th Street and Seventh Street, spring through summer of 2017.
An open house about the improvements is set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. June 15 in the fourth-floor Weyerhaeuser Room at Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave.
Contractor crews will add “bus bulbs” to each bus stop, a cement pad that projects out from the curb to allow a bus to stop in the right-hand lane of travel to let passengers on and off.
“Since the bus will stop in the lane of travel, the length of each bus stop zone can be significantly shortened, allowing for additional on-street parking,” according to a project description.
In addition to the bus bulbs, some stops also will get new shelters, benches, trash cans or bike racks. Some stops also will be moved.
That includes the current stop at 34th Street, which will be moved one block north to 33rd Street by the YWCA, where a traffic signal helps facilitate pedestrian crossings in marked crosswalks.
