EVERETT — Prince would have turned 58 this week had he not died from a pain killer overdose on April 21.
Everett Music Initiative’s tribute to the superstar is 7 to 11 p.m. June 11 at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave.
Ryan Crowther of EMI decided that Everett needed a party in Prince’s honor.
Prince Rogers Nelson, of Minneapolis, was a singer, songwriter, master rock guitarist, music innovator, record producer and talented, influential performer.
Because it was all his own, Prince’s eclectic music is difficult to categorize. It incorporated funk, blues, soul, new wave and pop. For his music, he won seven Grammy awards, a Golden Globe and an Oscar for his movie “Purple Rain.”
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the first year of his eligibility.
“We want to pay (him) tribute,” said Crowther.
The evening will include a 90-minute set by the Prince tribute band Purple Mane, a showing of the movie “Purple Rain” and DJs spinning Prince tunes.
“It’s going to be a really fun night,” Crowther said. “We have already sold hundreds of tickets, so I would encourage people to get theirs.”
