Here’s an inexpensive way to hear some of your favorites live without having to drive far or fork over big bucks.
The Sno-King Community Chorale offers its Ticket to Broadway series, with two concerts Saturday of the music of Cole Porter and Rodgers &Hammerstein.
“The music we are doing is amazing,” said chorale director Frank DeMiero. “The arrangements are wonderful. The Cole Porter medley blows my mind.”
The Sno-King Community Chorale has been together under DeMiero’s baton since 2001.
Since then, the Ticket to Broadway series has included “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Hello, Dolly,” “The Music Man,” “Oklahoma!” “The Sound of Music,” “South Pacific,” “West Side Story,” “Annie Get Your Gun,” “Les Miserables,” Mamma Mia” and “Phantom of the Opera.”
The first half of the June 11 concerts will include a cavalcade of 24 of the most popular Cole Porter songs arranged for choir and soloists. Porter was one of America’s most prolific composers, his songs delivered in a high-class musical theater style
“If anyone is moved to sing along, we welcome that,” DeMiero said. “We hope Porter’s music will cause you to bring back old and wonderful memories.”
Some of the tunes to be sung include “I Love Paris,” “Anything Goes,” “Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall in Love,” “Begin the Beguine,” and “Night and Day.”
The second half of the show is focused on a concert version of Rodgers &Hammerstein’s Broadway hit, “Carousel.”
Chorale accompanist Debra DeMiero plays the overture, followed by the 100-voice chorale singing “June is Busting Out All Over.”
“When I Marry Mr. Snow” will be sung by Catherine Montrose as Carrie.
