Construction on the Swamp Creek Bridge 504 replacement project is slated to begin Wednesday, June 15. Work is expected to wrap up in October.
Locust Way will be closed between 231st Street SW and Barker Road to all vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians starting June 20. Traffic will be rerouted from Locust Way to Carter Road and 14th Avenue W.
The County Council awarded a $1.5 million contract bid in March to McClure and Sons Inc., of Mill Creek. Federal funds will cover 80 percent of the project’s total cost of about $2.5 million, which includes design work.
The new bridge will be longer, wider and several feet higher. Bike lanes and sidewalks will be added.
The existing bridge has two lanes and was built in 1936. It was rebuilt in 1958 and 1988. It’s located in an unincorporated area between Brier and Bothell.
