There wasn’t a whole lot of news out of Wednesday’s second day of Seahawks minicamp. However, I definitely need a vehicle for this photo of Pete Carroll getting in step with Russell Wilson. So here’s a few notes and quotes:
– When Wilson was at the podium he fielded a question from teammate Doug Baldwin, who wanted to know when the curly-haired Wilson was going to get a haircut. Wilson responded that it was his playoff hair, which sounds suspiciously hockey-like to me. Wilson also said that he feels great physically, as if he’s 18 years old, and he also had good things to say about the rookies, who he described as “very professional.”
– I was personally paying attention to the competition at strong-side linebacker, which was vacated when Bruce Irvin signed as a free agent with the Oakland Raiders. Carroll said Tuesday that the starting position was wide open, and we’ve seen Mike Morgan, Cassius Marsh and Eric Pinkins all getting reps with the first-team defense this offseason.
It’s an intriguing situation because none of the three really have experience at the position. Morgan, known mostly for his work on special teams, is entering his sixth season with the Seahawks and has just three career starts, though two of those were in Irvin’s place last season. Marsh is converting from defensive end, having never played the position before. Pinkins was a safety in college who also is trying to transition to the position.
Carroll said Tuesday it was a competition that won’t be decided until preseason games.
