George Edwards has been hired as the boys basketball coach at Shorewood High School.
The school announced the hiring Friday.
Edwards replaces Corey O’Hayre, who resigned in May after two years as coach of the Thunderbirds.
This will be Edwards’ first head-coaching job, but he is familiar with the Thunderbirds program. He’s served two stints as an assistant coach at Shorewood (2001-2006 and 2008-2012).
“We are excited to have someone with George’s credentials and coaching experience,” Don Dalziel, the director of athletics for the Shoreline School District said in a press release. “He came into the interview process with a plan and an excitement to be the long-term leader of the Shorewood Basketball Program. He has been successful as an assistant coach and is ready for his chance to be the head guy.”
Edwards inherits a team that was 10-14 last season, including 4-8 in Wesco South play.
