Buh-bye Boingo: Washington State Ferries is ending its contract with Boingo to provide fee-based Wi-Fi service. Few people paid to use the service and are content to use the cellular data they already pay for. One rider said she’d rather use her money to buy a beer.
That’s a marketing failure; nobody at Boingo thought to offer a free beer with their Wi-Fi service?
Boingo, this is how it’s done: Blue Origin, the private space company owned by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, successfully launched and landed an unmanned rocket for the fourth time. Bezos plans to sell passage on suborbital flights into space.
Blue Origin customers are advised: “Other customers who bought a ticket to space also bought a space suit, oxygen tank, life insurance and a bag of peanuts.”
Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1966, The Beatles infamous “butcher cover” album, in which the band posed with bloody cuts of meat and doll parts, was recalled, creating a collector’s item.
It’s tempting, Boingo, but your next ad buy shouldn’t recreate the “butcher cover.”
