Incumbent Democratic 21st District State Rep. Strom Peterson recently sent a statement introducing himself to voters. Libertarian challenger Alex Hels has not responded to requests for an introductory statement. No Republican filed to run for the position.
Peterson and Hels will run on the Aug. 2 primary ballot, with both likely to advance from the “top two” primary to the November general-election ballot.
The 21st Legislative District includes most of Edmonds, unincorporated areas north of Edmonds and Lynnwood and northeast of Lynnwood, all of Mukilteo and part of south Everett.
Here are statements from the candidates in the order their names will appear on the primary ballot and in the voters’ pamphlet:
Strom Peterson (Prefers Democratic Party) —
It is an honor to serve as your State representative and represent the values of the 21st District. I have a record of working across the aisle on issues including fully funding education, protecting our environment, tackling our region’s opioid/heroin crisis, and strengthening our economy with good paying family-wage jobs. But there’s more work to be done. I’m proudly endorsed by State Sen. Marko Liias, County Council members Wright and Sullivan, Mayors Earling and Gregerson, our local firefighters, NARAL Pro-Choice Washington, Sierra Club, teachers, labor leaders, and neighbors across our district. I hope to earn your support.
Alex Hels (Prefers Libertarian Party) —
Has not responded to requests for an introductory statement.
