Yes! Thanks for the Monday editorial on banning freelance fireworks! Their use and abuse is so out of control that law enforcement cannot enforce the law. Law-abiding folks should not have to endure the deafening noise, flying sparks, and debris caused by the sophisticated fireworks that are available today to anyone with a few bucks and a match.
I’ll enthusiastically support all methods of reining in the chaos. In dense areas, however, fireworks in one neighborhood, such as Mays Pond in unincorporated Snohomish County, affect others, such as adjacent neighborhoods in Mill Creek, which bans fireworks. Therefore, any neighborhood petition in a dense area should include all affected neighbors.
The number for reporting unlawful use of fireworks — 425-407-3999 — will be a useful tool this summer and on New Year’s Eve.
