Boeing-built tankers could be based at Fairchild AFB

The U.S. Air Force says Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane is on its shortlist of possible homes for the second active-duty unit of KC-46A aerial refueling tankers, which Boeing is developing in Everett.

The list also includes Dover Air Force Base (AFB), Delaware; Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota; Travis AFB, California; and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey.

Wherever is selected, the airplanes would begin arriving in 2020, the Air Force said.

The KC-46A Pegasus is based on Boeing’s 767 and is assembled at Everett. The Air Force plans to buy 179 of the multirole tankers to be delivered by 2028, with more orders likely to follow.
