As I mentioned Wednesday, this week has afforded me the opportunity to get out to some places I haven’t had much chance of seeing. Thursday it’s Everett Memorial Stadium to check out the Everett AquaSox in their Northwest League home opener.
The big attraction for the AquaSox here early in the season is Kyle Lewis. Lewis was the Seattle Mariners’ first-round pick in this year’s amateur draft out of Mercer. He’s a physical specimen at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, and he has enough speed that he’s playing center field for the Sox — though many still think he projects as a corner outfielder. Lewis’ first six games were modest, as he’s just 3-for-24. However, he was a terror this spring with Mercer, batting .395 with 20 homers and 66 walks in 61 games.

Lewis isn’t the only prospect currently on Everett’s roster. Pitcher Luiz Gohara is back for his third go-around in the Northwest League. The Brazilian left-hander didn’t have much success his first two seasons with the Sox, but he’s still just 19 and he’s still listed on most Mariners top-prospect lists.
The Sox also have most of Seattle’s early picks from this year’s draft, including shortstop Bryson Brigman, who was a third round selection, and reliever Thomas Burrows, a fourth rounder who just joined the team Thursday.
