About NIE

The Newspapers in Education (NIE) program at The Daily Herald provides local schools with newspapers at NO COST to teachers for use as an interactive teaching tool inside their classrooms.

The Herald’s NIE program helps students understand our changing world and provides a creative way to practice reading, writing and critical thinking. Having the newspaper as an interactive text inside the classroom provides a real-world look at our community, promotes youth literacy, better prepares our children to become active members of society and future leaders in our community.

Newspapers in Education (NIE) is one of the most exciting educational tools available today. The Herald provides local schools with newspapers at no cost to the school. Funding for this program is subsidized heavily by The Herald and the rest is covered through the generous donations of our readers.

Today’s readers are tomorrow’s leaders!
