Market Information on Snohomish County

Overview

Snohomish County is located in the greater Puget Sound region and lies 20 miles to the north of Seattle. The geographic composition of the county varies from the beaches of the Puget Sound on the westernmost border to the alpine wilderness of the Cascade mountain range to the east. King County and metropolitan Seattle lie to the direct south with Skagit County and ultimately the Canadian border 50 miles to the north.

Snohomish County has experienced rapid growth in the past two decades and continues to grow both in population and economic output. The county is supported by a broad employment base that ranges from agriculture to aerospace, yet is close enough to Seattle to allow residents to commute daily to the downtown urban center. From farmhouses to waterfront homes to high-rise condominiums and from quaint mom-and-pop antique shops to shopping malls, Snohomish County offers both old world charm and modern amenities.

Growth

Snohomish County is the third most populated county in the state of Washington. The county experienced rapid growth during the 1980’s and 1990’s, with 70% growth from 1980 to 2000 [1], due to population creep from the Seattle area, an influx of out of state residents and a regional technology boom. Today the county continues to grow, albeit at a slower pace, and is currently the sixth fastest growing county in the state showing growth of 6.4% from 2000 to 2004 [1].
