Local connection: Lynnwood High, coaches

Best known as: State champion track coaches

Era: 1970s through 1990s

Coaching bio

Lynnwood High's original track coaches, Lewis and Goshorn took over in 1971 and spent decades turning out conference, district and state champions. Lewis started the boys program in 1971, and added the girls program to his tasks four years later. During a career that has spanned 38 years, he led both programs to state championships: the girls in 1990, and the boys in 1994. Goshorn coached Lynnwood's distance runners and the cross-country team, winning five state titles in cross country. A member of the Washington state cross country Hall of Fame, Goshorn retired in 1994 but came out of retirement to take over the Lake Stevens cross country program six years later. As a duo, Lewis and Goshorn made quite a team.
