Joe Strain

24. Joe Strain, Everett Giants manager Sport: Baseball

Local connection: Everett Giants, manager

Best known as: Manager of championship team

Era: 1984 through 1990

Coaching bio

When he left the team in 1990, Strain had more wins (202) than any manager in Northwest League history. He made quite a splash in his first season with the team, winning a league title in 1985. Four of his five teams finished above .500 before Strain resigned to become a scout in the San Francisco Giants' organization. Despite changes in ownership, affiliation and name -- the Class-A team is now known as the AquaSox -- Strain is still considered by many to be the best manager Everett's minor league baseball team has ever had.
