When it comes to female sports at Everett High, Howard is the matriarch. One of the original female coaches in this area, Howard led various teams to 10 conference titles. In 1973, her EHS track team won a state title, while she led the volleyball team to a second-place finish at state. As a volleyball coach, she won more than 180 matches over 22 seasons. Howard also coached softball and spent her final three years, from 1995 through 1997, as the Seagulls' assistant tennis coach. She was inducted into the Everett Coaches Hall of Fame last year.
