Gilbertson Sr., the father of football coach Keith Jr., made an impact in several other sports. In Snohomish, he is as well-respected as any coach after helping out the track, cross country, football and girls' basketball teams at SHS. As a cross-country coach, Gilbertson Sr. helped the Panthers finish among the top two in the state five times, including state titles in 1960 and 1965. His cross-country teams held an all-time record of 75-0 in dual meets . Gilbertson also spent 17 years as a track coach, bringing home two state individual state champions, and served three years as the school's head football coach before assisting Dick Armstrong. A pioneer in Snohomish sports, Gilbertson Sr. continues to serve as an assistant coach on the SHS basketball team.
