777X proposals were due Tuesday to Boeing

Sites vying to build the Boeing Co.’s 777X had to get their bids in to the company today.

The company has only said it sent out requests for proposal to more than a dozen locations. “‘Location’ is as specific as we’re going to be,” Boeing spokesman Doug Alder said last week. He wouldn’t even say if the sites are in the U.S. or not.

It also isn’t known if location means a state or if Boeing is considering multiple sites in one or more states. (The Herald recently ranked potential sites.)

That said, here are the states publicly reported to be in the hunt:

South Carolina is widely considered to be a contender. Boeing already assembles 787s in North Charleston. Other potential contenders include Ohio, Arizona and Texas.

Boeing will make a decision about where to build the plane and its wings by “early next year,” Alder said.
