The YMCA of Snohomish County has received 144 new basketballs, thanks to a donation from NBA Cares, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Spalding. The balls will be shared among the five YMCA of Snohomish County family branches and used for open gym, youth sports and camp programs. The Y has been a longtime national charity partner of NBA Cares because of the organizations’ shared commitment of encouraging individuals to live healthy lifestyles.


Economic Alliance Snohomish County’s annual Summer Networking event, presented by Workforce Snohomish, is 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Future of Flight in Mukilteo. Free tastings of locally crafted beverages are featured at this age 21 and over event. Attendees may purchase bottles with a portion of the proceeds going toward STEM education in Snohomish County. Global Spectrum will host a hiring fair for positions at Comcast Arena in Everett. The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 14 in the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center Conference Room 1 at the arena. Bring resumes and prepare for an interview. Positions are in guest services, box office, operations and housekeeping. Centerplate is also hiring bartenders, concession cooks, cashiers, dishwashers, banquet captains and servers, suite attendants and runners.

Rich Carton, a local Edward Jones financial adviser, will host his coffee club at 9 a.m. Aug. 15 at his office located in the Highway 9 Business Center, 9623 32nd Street SE, Suite B-101, in Lake Stevens. The public is invited to this courtesy event that takes place on the third Friday of every month.

Cannabis Cup, a two-day trade show and concert celebrating the cannabis culture and offering information, is being held for the first time in Everett on Sept. 6 and 7 at Comcast Arena. Previously held in Seattle, the event drew nearly 10,000 attendees from throughout the Pacific Northwest, and is expected to generate $2.3 million in economic impact for Snohomish County. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for Marysville Sunrise Rotary’s fourth annual Golf Tournament and Louisiana Shrimp Boil on Sept. 13. The charity event includes an all-you-can-eat shrimp dinner, a raffle and auction. Spaces are also still available for golf teams. Book early as the event sells out quickly. The Lynnwood Branch of 1st Security Bank is now collecting school supplies for Lynnwood Elementary School. Items needed include backpacks, binders, crayons, paper, pencils and other new school supplies. QFC has completed a $2.7 million remodel of the store at 2615 Broadway in Everett. To celebrate the re-opening, store management presented $500 donations to Volunteers of America and Boys &Girls Club of Everett. The five-month long remodel included upgrades in the produce, deli, bakery and wine departments. The store opened in 1995 and received its last major improvement in 2003.

The Solarize South County Community Coalition is seeking applications from qualified community organizations interested in having a donated solar photovoltaic system installed at their facility. The donated equipment will serve as a community award as part of the Solarize South County project.
