People

Stacy Engel is the newest sales associate at Renee’s Contemporary Clothing. She joins Renee Quistorf and Marlene Forsgren at the store in downtown Everett. Recently retired after more than 38 years as a registered nurse, Engel and her husband have lived in Snohomish for the past seven years. A welcome reception with specials for customers is planned for June 28.

Mark Milan has been named the senior business banking relationship manager for Wells Fargo in Everett. The 32-year financial services veteran most recently worked as a vice president and loan officer for Prime Pacific Bank in Lynnwood. He is a past board chair for Everett YMCA and is an elder board member for Smokey Point Community Church.

Heather Carter has joined the Puget Sound Attractions Council (PSAC) as the business development and marketing manager. She will be responsible for the daily operation of the PSAC. Carter previously worked for the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau and owned and operated Puget Sound Wedding Design.

Pete Kinch recently was installed as the 2012-13 president of the Rotary Club of Everett-Port Gardner. Kinch, a former Everett mayor, is the executive director of the non-profit Hands for Peacemaking Foundation. This is the second time Kinch has been president of the Everett club. Outgoing President Ann Anderst will continue as the club’s public relations director.

Bothell-based Cardiac Science Corporation has announced the appointment of Neal K. Long as the chief executive officer. Long brings more than three decades of experience in the medical devices industry.

Events

Cainim Truax, a certified credit counselor with Clearpoint Credit Counseling Solutions, will join host Chuck Noel on “Getting Your Dough To Rise” on KSER-FM (90.7) at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Truax will describe the free services provided by Clearpoint to Snohomish County residents with mortgage and other credit problems. Economic Alliance Snohomish County, the Port of Everett, and the Trade Development Alliance of Greater Seattle will offer an update on the state of trade in Snohomish County and the region Thursday. Workshops

The Social Security Administration will present a free two-hour workshop that will focus on using the latest online eServices to assist in completing disability applications and appeals. It will also provide information on the initial claims process, appeals process and changes in 2012. The workshop is from 9 to 11 a.m. on July 17 in Seattle. Alaska USA Federal Credit Union has opened a branch in the Silver Lake area of Everett, the fourth branch opening in Washington this year. The new Silver Lake branch is inside Safeway at 11031 19th Avenue SE. The branch offers a full range of credit union services. Anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Washington can become a member of Alaska USA.

Last week, Haggen/TOP Foods celebrated the grand re-opening of the Snohomish TOP Foods store under the Haggen Northwest Fresh brand. Between now and October, the company plans to rebrand as many as 10 Haggen and TOP Foods locations.

The Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee (AJAC) is contracting with Workforce Development Council Snohomish County to provide some in-demand green and energy efficient skills training at no cost to apprentices and incumbent workers. The program is through the Advanced Inspection and Manufacturing Mobile Training Unit. Apprentices and incumbent workers must be employed by companies which currently participate in AJAC’s apprenticeship program. For more information, visit www.ajactraining.org.

Joseph A. Gogal of Edward Jones in Everett recently won the firm’s Spirit of Partnership Award for outstanding performance during 2011. Gogal was one of 1,100 financial advisors out of the firm’s more than 12,000 to receive the award.

Snohomish County Public Utility District’s Youngs Creek hydropower project has received a 2012 Honor Award from the Seattle Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. The PUD’s Youngs Creek facility started operation last October south of Sultan. With a generating capacity of 7.5 megawatts, it produces enough energy at full capacity for nearly 6,000 homes.

Good deeds

Since the beginning of June, local drugstores have administered nearly 450 doses of whooping cough vaccine to low-income or uninsured adults. The Snohomish Health District supplies the pharmacies with free vaccine from the Sanofi Pasteur AmeriCares patient assistance program. Pharmacies charge a small amount to give the shot but the vaccine itself is free. Find a complete list of the participating pharmacies at www.snohd.org/stopthecough.

As part of Washington Business Week, Alaska USA Federal Credit Union is providing $5,000 grant money to sponsor five high school students to attend weeklong business camps at universities across the state. At the end of each week, Alaska USA employees will join as judges, to evaluate students’ mock company pitches and invest mock Business Week dollars in the strongest companies. Marysville Windermere Real Estate/JS and Marysville Sunrise Rotary hosted the Strike Against Homelessness Bowl-a-Thon on June 2 at Strawberry Lanes in Marysville. The event raised more than $20,000 for Housing Hope’s Beachwood property in Marysville.
