Whidbey Island Bank has hired David Barrett to be a real estate loan officer at the bank’s Marysville branch. The Marysville resident has more than 10 years of lending experience. Barrett will be responsible for the origination of residential, custom construction and land/building site loans.
Canyon Creek Cabinet Co. has promoted Scott Veitz to product engineering manager. Veitz has been with the company for almost 19 years. In his new role, he will manage the product development process, including prototype and new product testing, as well as the special products request department. And national trainer Jeannine Laitres recently gained Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist designation. The CAPS program teaches design professionals the skills to help older adults modify their homes. Laitres heads up the company’s Design Services program.

Fluke CNX Wireless Test Tools have been named the EC&M 2013 Gold Product of the Year, placing second in the top three awards. CNX Wireless Test Tools won the portable test and measurement equipment category as well as Gold overall, while the Fluke VT02 Visual Thermometer won the Camera and Imaging Equipment category. Fluke is based in Everett.

In Western Washington, nine Target stores, including the one in Lake Stevens, gave children from Salvation Army programs a Back-to-School Shopping Spree. The children, from kindergarten through high school, each received an $81 Target gift card to purchase school clothing and supplies. The event took place Aug. 14.

Brown Bear Car Wash will give away free Bear Essentials car washes at all 21 automated tunnel locations to celebrate its 56th anniversary on Thursday. The special one-day event runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Seattle-based, family-owned company has offered similar free wash events for several years.

Combined solar energy capacity for customers of the Snohomish County Public Utility District stands at two megawatts, double that of just 18 months ago. The bulk of the small-scale solar energy production comes from customers participating in the PUD’s Solar Express program, which offers financial incentives and technical assistance for solar photovoltaic and solar hot water systems.
BioLife Solutions, a Bothell-based developer, manufacturer and marketer of proprietary clinical grade hypothermic storage and cryopreservation freeze media for cells and tissues, and a contract aseptic media manufacturer, announced record revenue of $2.3 million for the second quarter of 2013. The increase represented 112 percent growth over the second quarter of 2012.
The Washington state Department of Transportation is accepting applications for state loan funding for freight-rail projects. Ports, rail districts, publicly owned railroads and local governments are eligible to apply for project loans available through the Freight Rail Investment Bank program.
