Pamela Shields has joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of Snohomish County, a YMCA affiliate, as executive director. Shields will oversee the day-to-day branch operations.
Banner Bank has promoted Diana Ortega to bank-officer-level vice president. She will continue in her capacity as a relationship manager and is based out of Banner’s Everett-Colby Commercial Banking Center.
Integrated Rehabilitation Group has hired Brody Kadow as a certified athletic trainer at Arlington Physical Therapy. The Vancouver, Wash., native will spend much of his time at Arlington High School, where he will evaluate and prevent injuries. Kadow graduated with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Linfield College in Oregon.
Terwedo Financial Services has hired Colette Roberge as operations assistant. Roberge brings with her seven years of bookkeeping and accounting experience and 11 years of customer service experience. And Aaron Terwedo is on board as planning assistant. Terwedo is a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Iraq on three deployments.
Washington Banking Co. has two new board members. Rhoda Altom and Deborah Gavin were also elected to serve on the board of Whidbey Island Bank, a subsidiary. Altom is a real estate investor and manager. Gavin was employed by the Boeing Co. for more than 20 years.
Dan Jaffe, a professor of atmospheric and environmental chemistry in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at the University of Washington Bothell, has received a Fulbright Award. Jaffe will spend a quarter as the distinguished chair in environmental sciences at the Parthenope University of Naples, Italy. He is expected to travel to Naples in 2014.
Marysville-based photovoltaic module manufacturer Silicon Energy beat out major competitors in recent durability testing done by the federally funded National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The company’s Cascade Series module competed against five of the top PV modules on the market and emerged from the tests with no electrical safety failures or performance degradation.
The City of Everett Planning Department is hosting a developers forum from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the Weyerhaeuser Room in Everett Station. It is the second in a series of workshops aimed at city staff planning for accommodating projected population and employment growth over the next 20-plus years.

The new location for GROW Washington’s Sultan Store opened on March 2 at 403 Main Street. The new storefront was previously the Dutch Cup Restaurant.
