Boeing to deliver first South Carolina-built 787 next week

The Boeing Co. is set to deliver next week the first 787 built in South Carolina.

Jack Jones, vice president of Boeing’s South Carolina operations, announced the upcoming delivery Wednesday, reports The Post and Courier.

The North Charleston-built Dreamliner will go to Air India, which picked up its first 787 earlier this month.

The airline also received a second 787 yesterday. Both of those aircraft were assembled in Everett but were delivered to Air India in South Carolina.

Air India officials also said on Wednesday that they expect delivery of a third 787 by the end of September. The airline plans to have five Dreamliners in the fleet by year’s end.

Air India put its first 787 into commercial service on Wednesday, after a minor glitch with the jet’s air conditioning.

The delivery yesterday to Air India comes just days after an aviation watchdog group called for frequent checks of General Electric GEnx engines used on 787s. Air India is one of three 787 operators that has selected the GE engines. Boeing officials said last week that all 787s with GE engines had been inspected already for the flaw that has led to engine failure.
