The Dominion Post newspaper looks at what Air New Zealand plans to do with the $2 billion worth of new airplanes it’s buying from Boeing and Bombardier. More flights to Asia are on the priority list. So is expanding service to Europe.
Key quote, from the story by reporter Roeland Van Den Bergh:
“Air New Zealand’s ability to expand its international network and increase capacity has been hamstrung by the big performance gap between the 767 and the 747. The 767 lacks the range needed to open new routes further afield such as to China, and its big brother, the 747, has too many seats to fill during the critical demand-building phase of a new destination … The 777 will give Air New Zealand the best of both worlds…”
