Sometimes the Easter Bunny travels by train. Vintage train.

And you get the chance to travel along to if you book a ride on the Lake Whatcom County Railway’s special Easter Train.

The Easter bunny will be aboard for two separate trips on March 31, handing out little chocolate Easter eggs to all the passengers.

Also, there’s a special Easter egg hunt for train passengers at the Easter Egg Happy Hunting Grounds, which can only be reached by this special Easter bunny train.

The Lake Whatcom railroad uses vintage passenger cars built by the Pullman Co. between 1910 and 1925. The passenger cars are full-size and enclosed and are pulled by a 1940 Alco diesel locomotive.

During the ride, a strolling musician plays the banjo. Snacks can be purchased from the train’s coffee shop car.

The trains travel parallel to Highway 9 for a short distance, then goes through a tunnel, alongside Mirror Lake and out into the woods where a stop is made. There might also be an opportunity to ride the railroad’s old handcar as well.

The special Easter Train will run at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. March 31. The train leaves Wickersham Station, 10 miles north of Sedro-Woolley on Highway 9 for the two-hour round-trip.

The fare is $20 for adults, $10 for children, and free for age 2 and younger.

The Lake Whatcom Railway special event trains usually sell out fast and tickets are purchased by mail only, so act swiftly. For tickets and driving instructions write to Lake Whatcom Railway, P.O. Box, 91, Acme, WA 98220. Include a check for the tickets and a self-addressed stamped envelope, a note specifying the number of adults and number of children, and a telephone number for you to be contacted if necessary.

Specify which departure time you prefer.

This elaborately carved French antique may be old, but it’s still capable of keeping its leavened contents perfectly fresh.
