Here’s the sweet thing: Children get in free.

The Arlington Fly-In continues today and Saturday, July 11 and 12, at Arlington Municipal Airport and the Arlington Street Fair continues through Sunday afternoon, July 13.

At the airport, events and exhibits begin each day at 8 a.m., with air shows starting at about 2 p.m. The street fair opens at 10 a.m. Highlights include lots of kids activities, food vendors, shuttles to the Fly-In, the Arlington Idol singing contest at 3 p.m. today and local country singer Jesse Taylor performing at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets to the Fly-In are $15 apiece for people arriving by car or $10 for those arriving by plane. Children 15 and younger are admitted free.

Arlington Mayor Barbara Tolbert, whose day job is director of the Fly-In, said proceeds from the air show go to aviation education and scholarships. The Fly-In is run by a nonprofit organization that relies on about 385 volunteers to put together Arlington’s largest annual event, she said. The Fly-In draws pilots and planes from about 20 states, and more than 30,000 people attended last year.

At the Fly-In, look for flight simulators, rides, airplane and kite building crafts for kids, displays for older children and face painting for the younger ones.

If your kids can stay up late, look for a lighted hot air balloon show after dark tonight.
