David Weiner’s photographs: Weiner has been taking photos for more than 30 years. His pictures show a cross section of Washington state, as well as Arizona, New England, The mid-Atlantic and Italy. Weiner’s photos will be on display through June 30 at Driftwood Players Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds. Tickets are not required to view the artwork. Schack Art Center: 2921 Hoyt Ave., Everett; 425-259-5050; www.schack.org. “The Art of the Garden”up through Aug. 1, showcasing art that brings the garden inside as well as classic garden art that remains outdoors in mediums that include ceramic, cement casting, sculpture, glass, photographs, paintings and more.
Also: “Visions Explored 2013,” is an exhibit featuring students completing their studies at Everett Community College in the studio art and photography programs. The show runs through Aug. 5 in the Emerging Young Artists’ Gallery at the Schack.

A new acrylic and mixed media exhibit of abstract paintings and collages by Duane Simshauser called “Rock On, Baby!” comprised of 13 works which curator Lyussy Hyder calls “abstract at its best.” The exhibit runs through July 12.

Higbee works with found wood, turning each piece into a vase that often preserves the exterior features of the wood; White carves driftwood feathers, which are finished to be hung on walls or in windows, or displayed on flat surfaces.

She has said her goal is “to surprise and engage the mind by seducing the eye.” Her work is on display through Oct. 6.

The gallery is moving from its Seattle Tower location to the Seattle Art Museum’s downtown facility on First Avenue this fall. For the past 10 years local Northwest artists have received gallery exposure and a place to display and trade their works. Moving the gallery into the museum gives local artists continued visibility at SAM’s downtown location.
Olympic Sculpture Park: 2901 Western Ave., Seattle. “The Western Oracle: We Will Tear the Roof Off the Mother, 2013”: A new large-scale work of art by Seattle artist Heather Hart. This interractive piece is a roof that people can climb on or crouch down into its ground-level attic. Up through Oct. 13.

Art Quest for Kids, Summer Art Camps 2013: Camps run July through August. Each four day camp is 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and will feature different art projects such as; acrylic painting, sculptures made from driftwood, wire or clay, wooden puzzle piece paintings, animal carousels, mask making, pastels and drawing. Camps will be held at the Delzell Studio, 2177 Highland Drive, Camano Island, where kids can go to the beach, play in a driftwood fort or beach-comb for art projects. Schack Art Center: selected Everett painter Josey Wise as the 2013 Poster Artist for Fresh Paint: Festival of Artists at Work Aug. 17 and 18. A self-taught artist, Wise paints primarily in oil and tends toward a bright palette with expressive strokes.
Partners for Youth Empowerment: Holds its first international gathering July 2 through 7 at the Whidbey Institute, 6449 Old Pietila Road, Clinton. More than 80 artists, educators, and youth workers from around the world are expected to attend this first international gathering called “Catch the Fire.”
Northwest artist Jack Dorsey of Camano Island: won the Palouse Watercolor Socius’s top prize in their four-state regional juried art show; the Avista Best of Show Award for $1,000. Two of Dorsey’s watercolors, “Back Porch Carnations” and “Prize of Summer” are included in the 36 paintings that will hang in the University of Idaho’s Prichard Art Gallery in downtown Moscow. The exhibition is open during gallery hours through Aug. 3.
