Bags, curls and T-shirts: Some ways to keep cool this summer

1. Cool bags

Even a plain PB&J will look snazzy — or scary — in these sandwich bags by Russbe.

The reusable bags are decorated with faces of three-eyed orange monsters, pretty pink monsters and toothy purple monsters.

The sets come with two snack bags, for grapes or pretzels, and two sandwich bags, for chicken salad or ham and cheese.

Perfect for your little monster.

Also available with waves, clouds and polka dots.

Cost is $7.99. Available at Fred Meyer and www.Russbe.com.

2. Cool curls

We girls with curls will try any product that promises to fight the dreaded F-word — frizz.

Most potions don’t do anything but make our curls sticky and gunky.

Controlled Chaos’ Original Curl Creme claims its product can tame wavy manes, so we put it to the test.

My (grown-up) baby girl with lots of curls rated it high, saying it left her ringlets smooth and frizz-free, but not gunky.

I liked the way it shaped my short curls, too.

3. Cool shirts

Can’t decide what to wear? The answer is “white” in front of you.

“If there was one item of clothing that I think every individual should own, both male and female, it would be white T-shirts,” writes Mill Creek blogger Anne Dofelmier.

“You can literally throw them on with anything. Whenever I am in a clothing slump, inevitably I end up in a white T-shirt. Refresh your white T-shirt collection at least twice a year if not more. Nothing is worse than a dingy beige T-shirt that is supposed to be white.”

Collectors particularly prize tiles made by early 20th century art potteries. This Wheatley piece sold for $216 at auction.
