My husband and I enjoyed a rare afternoon without children this past Saturday, and we celebrated by having lunch at Eagles Buffet at the Tulalip Casino. I’m not a gambler, nor am I exactly sure what I think about casinos in general, but that buffet was pretty darn amazing!
I’m going to forever have a very soft place in my heart for the Tulalip Tribes after they helped come to the rescue of the Marysville School District last year, in the middle of the state’s budget crisis. (Tulalip Tribes give Marysville schools $1.26 million.)
I remember reading that article in the Herald over breakfast last February, and thinking: “WOW!” Here it is over a year later, and I am still inspired.
Well, I’m not going to be able to donate a million dollars anytime soon, but there are three main ways I show my support for public schools:
1. I join the PTA.
2. I vote “Yes” on all school district levies.
3. I seek out our local public schools foundation.
On Oct. 13 my family will be running and walking at the Edmonds Public Schools Foundation’s fourth annual Celebrate Schools 5k. This is the fourth year my family has participated, and it is always a lot of fun.
Are you familiar with your own school district’s education foundation? They might have a fun activity for your family to do too. Here’s a list of links to get you started:
P.S. It’s not too late to register for the Celebrate Schools 5k if you would like to join in on the fun.
