Cheap ways to stuff a Christmas stocking

Some of the best things in life are free. Others are only $1.

Ten dollars can fill a stocking that would turn Santa green with envy. Dollar stores offer lip glosses and stretchy bouncing balls to squeaky dog toys and glass champagne flutes. Give yourself a maximum before you go in, or you’ll wind up with things like steak sauce, duct tape and fake designer fragrances.

Here are more ways to bang out a buck to fill a sock: A song on iTunes. A used book. An e-book. Five color 4-by-6 photos or an 8-by-10. A lottery ticket. A newspaper.
