1.An app for your lawn.
As the cliche goes, there’s an app for everything — including lawn care.
GreenPal, a free app that connects homeowners with local pre-screened lawn professionals, recently launched in Everett.
Just list what your lawn needs, when you want it done and any other important details, then the bidding war between local pros begins. You select who to work with based on their ratings, reviews and price.
Unless you’ve been diligent with irrigation, your lawn is browning up now. But the app may come in handy next spring, when weekly mowings are de rigueur.

2. Snakes for the garden.
They slither just like venomous snakes. But garter snakes are actually our friends.
Especially if we’re gardeners.
They eat insects, slugs and other pests that harm plants. They prefer moist, grassy areas near water, such as streams and lakes.
Learn how to make the most of our garter snake buddies from expert Thayer “The Frog Lady” Cueter at a free “Garter Snakes in Your Garden” class from 1 to 3 p.m. July 14 in the Edmonds Demo Garden at Sound Salmon Solutions, 95 Pine St., Edmonds.

3. Tips for the deck.
It’s probably a good idea to inspect your backyard deck before your next BBQ party.
Experts at House Logic have some tips to help you with your midsummer inspection.
Look for rot. If it’s no bigger than a silver dollar, remove it with a chisel, then treat the gap with wood preservative. Larger areas may require a pro.
Look below. The majority of deck collapses are caused by damage to the ledger, the framing attached to the house. Use a flashlight to check underneath the deck for signs of ledger rot and splitting.
Look for rust. Don’t forget to check any steel structural parts for signs of significant corrosion.
