For those who run 13 farms surrounding Snohomish County, autumn is when it all comes together. Crops have just reached or are about to reach their peaks.
But the outdoor family fun doesn’t have to end.
Farms in Bow, Burlington, Concrete, La Conner, Mount Vernon, Rockport and Sedro-Woolley will welcome visitors to the 12th annual Skagit Valley Festival of Family Farms from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
With sites including dairy and vegetable farms, orchards and alpaca ranches, the weekend offers ample entertainment.
Activities will vary by farm, but the basic agenda includes tractor and pony rides; visiting time with animals; tire mazes, treasure hunts, wagon rides, play areas, pumpkin bowling and wine tasting.
Cider-making, blacksmithing and other demonstrations also are planned.
The Skagit Valley Farm Pedal, a bicycle tour, will complement the event on Sunday, starting and finishing at Schuh Farms, 15565 Highway 536 in Mount Vernon.
Riders of varying skill levels may choose between 15- to 33-mile routes through Skagit Valley, and must sign up at the Schuh farm between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
Get more details on the free Pedal by calling 360-424-4619.
While admission and parking are free, some activities and foods have small fees.
