Community garden: The Snohomish Garden Club is planting a community garden to produce food for local food banks. Volunteers are needed to prepare, plant, maintain and harvest throughout the season. All ages welcome. Planting takes place beginning at 9:30 a.m. May 26. Maintenance begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturdays and Tuesdays. Some tools provided. The garden site, provided by Don and Barbara Bailey, is a south of Snohomish on the east side of Springhetti Road, just north of Bailey Compost. Contact: Jerry Stansberry, 425-481-1080.

Whidbey Island Backyard Wildlife Habitat Fair: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2 at Freeland Park and Hall, 1535 E. Shoreview Ave., Freeland. Free event includes speakers, interactive booths, demonstrations and display gardens; plant sales, kids’ activities and food vendors. See www.wildlifefair.wordpress.com for more information.

If you have a plant with a problem or disease, bring in a fresh plant sample that, if possible, includes the diseased area, a transition area and a healthy area. Photos are also helpful.
