The indefatigable teller of tales set in the American West, Ivan Doig, signs his latest novel, “The Bartender’s Tale,” at noon Saturday at Edmonds Bookshop.
“The Bartender’s Tale” is set in Montana where he grew up and writes about in his books, both fiction and nonfiction. It’s the story of a 12-year-old boy trying to figure out life in the 1960s as he observes the puzzling adults passing through or spending time in his father’s saloon.
Doig, who lives and writes in Seattle, says in his online biography that he left Montana to become a newspaper writer and editor. After getting a doctorate in history at the University of Washington with the intention of teaching, he discovered he’d rather write.
You can meet Doig at the Edmonds Bookshop, 111 Fifth Ave. S. Call 425-775-2789 for information about the book signing, For more on Doig, see his website, www.ivandoig.com.
