Learn the story of maritime names around Puget Sound

Ever wonder how every island, bay, point, inlet, pass, harbor, channel, strait, canal, passage, peninsula, sound and shoal around Puget Sound got its name?

Well, wonder no more.

Writer Richard Blumenthal will share everything you want to know about the name game in Washington’s maritime history. The free talk is at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at Everett’s Milltown Sailing Association clubhouse, 410 14th St. It will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

Blumenthal, a lifelong boater who has written several books, transcribed the journals of Peter Puget and other early explorers to get a better sense of their efforts, their hardships, the places they visited and why they chose the names.
