Don’t know much about camping?
Your family can learn some basic skills June 25 and 26 and spend a night on the beach at Silver Lake in Everett during the Great American Backyard Campout.
Join other families here and across the country during the seventh annual event organized by the National Wildlife Federation and designed to bring families together outdoors.
Check in between 3:15 and 3:30 p.m. June 25 at Thornton A. Sullivan Park, 11405 W. Silver Lake Road. Everett park rangers and REI staff will help participants pitch their tents, build shelters, learn to start a campfire and cook with a Dutch oven.
It’s all about camping comfortably and having fun.
After set-up and dinner, everyone will gather for an evening community family campfire experience, with a fun program that includes the sweetest American camping tradition, s’mores.
A hot breakfast will be served the next morning, before breaking down camp.
Bring your own camping gear, if you have it, or families may borrow from a limited supply of tents, sleeping bags and pads. And bring along a small cooler with something to throw on the grill or anything else you want for dinner.
Registration is required. The cost is $15 per family (up to five people) or $5 per individual. When you register, you will receive additional information about what you need to bring. To register call Everett Parks and Recreation at 425-257-8300, ext. 2.
