WHAT: Nandina domestica, Moon Bay, commonly known as heavenly bamboo, is a dwarf nandina. It’s evergreen and is grown for its interesting foliage.

New leaves open light green and provide a beautiful contrast to the bright red leaves that winter brings.

Nandina is native to Japan, China and Indiana and will bloom in warmer climates and produce berries, but rarely does this happen in the Pacific NW.

Its color palette alone is reason enough to consider it as part of the residential garden.

SUN OR SHADE: Moon Bay will tolerate light shade, but the most vivid colors will occur in full sun.

SIZE: This shrub grows to 3 feet tall by 3 feet wide

SUN OR SHADE: This shrub can provide the “wow” factor that we all search for, so position it in full sun for the greatest coloration.

SEE IT: At the Evergreen Arboretum &Gardens in the WSU Master Gardeners Demonstration Border; 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett; for more information see www.evergreenarboretum.com and take a virtual photo tour. 425-257-8597
