It is a priceless moment when the caterpillar first pops out and looks around for something to munch on.
He is rather big-eyed and whimsical and he’s sure to bring squeals of glee from the young audience.
The story has the caterpillar eating his way through a larder of fruits and other treats, and pretty much creating hilarious havoc while never managing to get full.
Then something magical happens to the caterpillar.
This “Very Hungry Caterpillar” is one of the featured shows in Mermaid Theatre’s puppet and special effects production, “Treasured Stories by Eric Carle” being presented Jan. 26 at the Everett Civic Center. The show is presented by Village Theatre’s Pied Piper.
A second Carle-illustrated classic is “Brown Bear.” In this show, the audience is introduced to an assortment of colorful characters, from a flying red bird to a jumping green frog.
In Carle’s “Papa Please Get the Moon for Me,” Monica sees the moon before going to bed. She asks her father to get it for her. He gets a ridiculously long ladder, the size of which would make anyone laugh, and gets the moon.
But there’s more.
All these stories are delivered against a backdrop of playful music, dominated by some delightful piano riffs.
This is a kid-friendly show geared for children 6 and under. After the show, there will be a “lights on” demonstration of the puppets.
“Treasured Stories by Eric Carle” starts at 2 p.m. Jan. 26 at Everett Civic Auditorium, 2415 Colby Ave., Everett. Tickets are $15. Call 425-257-8600 or go to www.villagetheatre.org.
