Gifts from the Heart drive aids many relief agencies
Recently a plea for gently used and new toys and books was made to the students of St. Mary Magdalen School in Everett to help efforts in Haiti, which suffered a massive earthquake Jan. 12, and the Philippines flooding disaster.
The school responded by organizing a Gifts from the Heart sale. In one day, they raised $5,087 to give to Catholic Relief Services.
In addition to the financial contribution, the students were able to give books to Doctors for Orphans and stuffed animals to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
Edmonds resident on Ithaca dean’s list
Andrew Greene of Edmonds was named to the dean’s list at Ithaca College’s School of Health Sciences and Human Performance in New York for the fall semester with a GPA of 3.5.
He is the son of Steven Greene and Victoria Adams of Edmonds.
To qualify for this academic honor, students must attain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and complete a minimum of 15 credit hours, of which at least 12 are graded.
Skills Center students win business awards
Students from the Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center took five first-place awards at a recent regional competition for the Future Business Leaders of America.
Taking top honors were Devon Harting in networking concepts, Jesse Goldman in technology concepts, Tonweya Miller-Young in cyber security, Dustin Marthini in computer problem solving and the team of Kasiah Butler, Marthini and Harting in network design.
Sultan students win state vocal slots
Sultan School District students participated in the Mount Pilchuck Music Educators Association District Solo-Ensemble Contest Feb. 6 at Cascade High School in Everett.
At the contest, Sultan’s men’s vocal ensemble was selected for state for the second year. Junior Ryan Fox was selected for state for his tympani solo. He was also selected as the state alternate for the snare solo.
The women’s vocal ensemble and senior Hunter Kleinman were both chosen to be the state alternates at the contest.
Mukilteo resident on St. Mary’s dean’s list
Liahna Gonda-King of Mukilteo was awarded dean’s list honors for academic honors during the fall semester at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in St. Mary’s City, Md.
Dean’s list honors are awarded to full-time students at St. Mary’s College of Maryland who earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better on 12 or more graded credits.
Local residents earn WWU scholarships
Western Washington University students Samuel Dale and Cherilyn Reimers recently received scholarships for the current academic year.
Dale is the son of Brian and Cynthia Dale of Everett. He received a $500 Pacific Energy Association Scholarship.
The Pacific Energy Association Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior pursuing a curriculum in the engineering technology department. Dale has earned a 3.3 GPA and is majoring in industrial technology.
Reimers is the daughter of Ken and Lynne Reimers of Snohomish. She received a $500 Ada and Don Walter Endowment Scholarship.
The Ada and Don Walter Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students who are potential music educators. Reimers has earned a 3.75 GPA and is majoring in music.
