50 YEARS AGO (1958)
Norm Lowery, Everett High School basketball coach, and seven members of his varsity squad reviewed floor drills and their offensive pattern for tomorrow night’s opener against Lake Washington. The players were Bill Schmidt, Mike Mahoney, Chuck Tripp, Eddie Brown, Steve Simmons, Dick Powlesland and Tom Gish.
The free right turn program at intersections controlled by traffic signals, except those on Broadway, was reinstated in Everett today. The city initiated the program last year, but the state declared it illegal. Safety Commissioner C. Arvid Johnson said it was necessary because downtown traffic was such a mess.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
Rick Reisinger was busy drumming up interest for production of another farm map for next year. He had called another organizational meeting for later this week in the Snohomish County Cooperative Extension office at 3001 Rockefeller Ave. The first meeting didn’t draw much response, he said.
The 30 people with postal boxes at the recently closed Oso Store on Highway 530 could pick up their mail at the Arlington Post Office. If the store reopened, it would take the new owner about six weeks to receive approval to again distribute the mail.
