50 years ago (1961)
The traffic pattern on U.S. 2 through Snohomish got a new look this week with the installation of a traffic signal at Second Street and Avenue D. Reversing the former pattern, the new light put the stop sign on highway traffic entering from Everett and the caution blinker
for traffic approaching from the east.
Jack McIntosh, who was rapidly gaining the name of Mr. Hat Island hereabouts, addressed the Everett Yacht Club’s weekly session. He told of plans for a boat-access motel, private homes, a golf course and other improvements.
25 years ago (1986)
Still a popular hike, only a half-hour from Everett, was Mount Pilchuck. The three-mile trek gained a little over 2,000 feet in altitude to the peak of 5,324 feet above sea level. The view at the fire lookout at the summit afforded panoramic views of the Puget Sound area and Cascade giants such as Glacier Peak and Mount Baker.
Best stores opened at former Jafco stores in the region. Best specialized in jewelry, giftware, electronics, housewares, sporting goods and more.
