50 years ago (1962)

Mukilteo Sunset Hours Club met at Rose Hill School, Flossye Merrifield presiding, and made final plans for their picnic at Floral Hall in Forest Park. Lunch was served by Lela Reed, Nina Tweedale and Eva Keezer, with Frank Sherman assisting in the kitchen. Afterward games and group singing with Stella Fisher at the piano were enjoyed.

Five Everett bowlers were to leave by train for Owensboro, Ky., to participate in the 1962 BPAA National Team handicaps. The five, members of the Strokers bowling team were Hank Bosman, Glen Burpee, Gene Gaines, Jim Johnson and Ken Johnson.

25 years ago (1987)

Construction had started on an Everett Mall expansion that would add nearly 50,000 square feet of space, 20 new specialty shops and a food court with 15 restaurants. The project would be conducted in two phases — first the actual expansion and then a complete renovation of the 13-year-old mall.

Michael W. Smyth, of Edmonds, a Marine Crops major, had received a Letter of Appreciation for outstanding performance while stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point, N.C. He was a 1971 graduate of Woodway High School.
