Ron Peters, 1802 Hoyt Ave., was making certain of a last few points before leaving for Peace Corps duty in Ecuador. The son of Mr. and Mrs. N.B. Peters was home on leave on a 10-day leave before leaving for Ecuador.
Dr. Walter Lamey presented City Junior Golf Tournament championship trophies to George Schindler, Tiny Tads; Jim Egge, junior division winner; and Larry Martin, intermediate champion.
25 years ago (1987)
From the Marine Village Inn two Cincinnati sisters watched a parade of sailboats, tugs towing rafts of logs, charter boats, eagles, seagulls and osprey with Puget Sound and the Olympics as the backdrop. They commented that the place must be the best-kept secret in the country. In fact, Everett and all of Snohomish County was a secret to tourists.
An early morning fire near Flowing Lake lit up the sky east of Snohomish yesterday. The fire occurred on an 1,000-foot-long tire fence, along the edge of property on Weber Road on the south side of the lake. County Fire Inspector Joe Coleman believed it had begun spontaneously.
