50 years ago (1962)
Fullback Dave Hall was the hero of the day as Everett defeated Wenatchee here on Oct. 12 3-0. Hall did it with a field goal kick. The shout which burst out of the Seagulls’ dressing room was airborne by the tail end of typhoon Frieda all the way across the mountains to Wenatchee.
Jim Saunders, Snohomish High School senior, earned a letter of commendation from the national Merit Scholarship Foundation on the basis of an examination he took last spring, it was announced by Principal Hal Moe. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Saunders.
25 years ago (1987)
Betty Rettenmier said her mother, Merle Stevens, 90, attended her first University of Washington football game Saturday since when she was a senior at Huskyville back in 1925. On that same day 62 years ago, the Queen of Romania was in Seattle, said Rettenmier, a former Herald reporter.
An all-day Forest Practices Workshop would be sponsored by the Pilchuck Audubon Society at the Snohomish county extension Service office at McCollum Park. Speakers from the Sierra Club and U.S. Forest service would be present. Those interested could call Bonnie Phillips-Howard.
